World Beard Day

World Beard Day is celebrated annually on an international level with people from every nation and continent gathering together with their beards. It is held on the first Saturday of September and is characterised by the happiness of all people being with their beards and with each other.

On World Beard Day, it is customary for the bearded members of a family to relax and partake in no jobs or chores. The beardless members of the family traditionally show their support by waiting on the bearded hand and foot. World Beard Day is all about promoting and elevating the global status of the beard. Whilst many countries and cities practice World Beard Day customs specific to their own region, shaving on World Beard Day is universally considered to be highly disrespectful.

WHY THE BEARD?

The beard has been the ultimate symbol of manliness since time out of mind. Close trimmed, full, or properly manicured, even wild and bushy and out of control, the beard stands supreme in the world of masculinity. In fact, in many cultures, the beard has often been a representation of many masculine virtues, including wisdom, strength, high social status, and even sexual prowess, especially in warrior cultures.

History of World Beard Day

The Origin of the day has been lost to history; this is not shocking considering that there is proof that the Danish Vikings have observed a day in tribute of their beard going back as far as 800 AD. In those old August days, a particular specific day was not there to honor the beard, but they had a lot of celebrations all over the region, few such celebrations were a little crazy. For example, In Dönskborg, Sweden all those who don’t have a beard are expelled from the town, and they spend a day and night in the nearby forest. In town, their blameworthy clean-faced men are protected by those people having incredible beards. In southern Spain, there is a story of having a boxing match between the bearded man and a beardless boy if you can call it a boxing match when the man is armed with a sharp pike. Shaving the beard on World Beard Day is considered a disrespectful act. However in modern times, since 2010, the unshaven has been celebrating World Beard Day.
