Alopecia Areata Awareness Week is held in the 3rd week of November. This annual event is a great time to spread the word about this condition which is so often misunderstood.  In 2021, Alopecia Areata Awareness Week will be held from the 13th to the 21st of November. This annual event is a great time to spread the word about this condition which is so often misunderstood. AAAF hosts a range of events across the country during this week, and invites you to attend, or to host your own event! Some regular highlights include the Boldest Bald Brunch, and the Crazy Hair Day, which takes place in several schools and youth organisations across Australia.

The Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation has been working with dermatologists to rectify inconsistency in the treatment protocols for patients with alopecia areata. They continue to support research into this condition and work with researchers and practitioners to improve outcomes and experiences for patients. Unfortunately, many affected individuals do not know where to get good support or seek medical help for alopecia areata. There is nothing you can do' is often said to affected individuals, falsely dampening any hopes of treatment. Whilst alopecia areata is a challenging condition to treat in many, some individuals experience good responses to treatments. There are promising treatments for extensive alopecia areata already available overseas that will hopefully make their way to Australia in the next few years.

Variety Alopecia Areata Adventure Camp

The Variety Alopecia Areata Adventure Camp is a highlight of Alopecia Awareness Week generously supported by Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT. The camp is a fantastic opportunity for kids living with Alopecia to make friends, learn about the condition, and – most importantly – have a very fun time. Thanks to our generous supporters at Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT, the AAAdventure Camp is completely free for kids with alopecia to attend, including flights, meals, accommodation, and activities.
