Introducing Holly, this week’s Mediscrubs influencer

Hello, my name is Holly Lemasurier. I live at Logan village. I’m currently an Assistant Nurse at a hospital and I’m only a few months away from finishing my Registered Nursing degree to be an RN.

How did you get where you are today?

I did a school-based traineeship when I was 17 with metro south health traineeships and TAFE. Once I graduated from year 12 I went on to my Registered Nurse (RN) degree at Griffith University but changed to go to the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) as I wanted to have more rural placements because this was a big interest for me. My future goal is to become a rural and remote nurse or to be an aeromedical nurse (flight nurse).

What is the best thing about being a nurse?

I love being able to care for others when they’re at their most vulnerable as it’s very rewarding to watch them improve and know that no matter the time I spent caring for them that I still made a positive impact on their life. There are so many fields in nursing in which I can grow my skills and many friends you make along the way, with nursing you can also travel and meet people all across the world if you want to.

What are some of the struggles you have had along the way?

The struggles I find in nursing are when you come across some cases where you feel you can’t help, that there’s nothing more you can do and I find this very difficult to accept at times. I go home and I will still think about this. I also find it a struggle when our team loses a patient and then has to go back onto the floor and work, treating our other patients in the next room like nothing happened, keeping your feelings tucked away.
