Introducing Toby Redler - Paramedic, Surf lifesaver, and medical student

Hello, my name is Toby Redler. I am a Paramedic with Queensland Health and am currently studying medicine.

Hi Toby. What areas of medicine have you completed so far to get where you are today?

So far, I have completed an undergraduate para-medicine degree at Griffith University on the Gold Coast here. This course involved two and a half years of full-time study with hands-on, real-life placements. At this point in time, I'm continuing my studies in medicine of which I am currently in my second year of a four-year medical course. As part of this course, I will be commencing my hospital placement next year for a period of two years along with some out working as well.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Usually wake up pretty early, get up before the sun's up, do some training, whether that's running or in the gym, then I usually head to the university. I'm at Griffith University again so I go, go over to the campus there do some study, do some classes or workshops whatever's on in the afternoon either do some work, whether that's up in Brisbane doing some paramedic work or just locally on the Gold Coast. Working at a school and healthcare centre here as well. and then at night just some more study before bed again.

Tell us an interesting fact about Toby Redler

An interesting fact about me? I used to compete, a fair bit in surf lifesaving and I competed in a couple of rounds of the Nutri-Grain IronMan & Ironwomen Series. I have recently purchased a new little puppy and I have started to ride a motorbike as well so that keeps me busy.

What do you love about Mediscrubs?

I love that Mediscrubs is a locally based company, I can always find a size that fits me well and when I'm wearing Mediscrubs, it just feels like they are made from really good quality materials that I know I can trust.

What do you love about your career as a Paramedic?

The best thing about being a paramedic for me is probably that it's really person orientated so I get to deal, one on one with people. It's really cool, meeting different people helping him out and it's pretty, pretty special being with someone on one of the worst days of their life, you're that person that can sort of turn that around so that's pretty fun.
